Preparation & Processing

We inspect all the film, clean and lubricate it if necessary. We splice together any breaks or small sections as needed. We rewind movie film on reels, correct for upside down or backwards film and edit out blank spaces.*

The next step is processing the video. This is done to adjust the light and color of your film. We can’t make bad film look good. We can sometimes make it look better. We can make nominal adjustments to enhance the picture for better viewing satisfaction. For example, often film is recorded under-exposed, and appears very dark. In this case, the lighting can be adjusted to enhance the image. Also some film may have too much red or blue due to deterioration or aging. Hence, the colors are adjusted through the processing amplifier for better color quality.**

We can bring your presentation alive by adding music, titles, narration, freeze frame, fades, transitions, and other special effects.

We can create MPEG files for you and save them on CDROM or DVD. With the appropriate software you can edit these files on your home computer, save clips, and email them to friends and family.

*Cleaning and minor repair of film are included in our service but not major editing nor major repair (restoration) of the film stock. Long stretches of blank film are electronically edited out but everything else is run as is. If required, video editing can be done by our production department. We have three state of the art in-house editing suites.

**Video quality depends on the quality of the film submitted. Although your videotape will be produced on state-of-the-art professional electronic equipment, a minimal loss of sharpness or color can occur in the copying process. Our trained technicians take care to achieve the maximum quality for each transfer. Electronic image enhancement is used when required for brightness and color balance. The finished product looks nearly equal to and sometimes better than the original.
