Panasonic PV-DV800

Digital Camcorder

Panasonic PV-DV800 Digital Camcorder
The PV-DV800 is the top model in Panasonic's line of single-chip DV camcorders. A digital camcorder and still camera in one, this miniature marvel can connect directly to your computer in three different ways for easy downloading.

Mini DV is the revolutionary digital video format that takes home video recording to new, previously unimaginable levels. Almost 500 lines of horizontal resolution combined with CD-quality audio on a miniature cassette that is 56% smaller than a 8mm tape. And, when using an 80-minute tape in LP mode, the PV-DV800 can record up to two full hours of video. The PV-DV800 even has PhotoShot, which lets you use the camcorder as a digital still camera.

The PV-DV800 is a Digital Palmcorder from Panasonic that features a WideSight 3.5" wide angle color LCD monitor that delivers realistic confirmation of your subject while you are recording. Features dual digital electronic image stabilization for professional looking hand held shots and an IR Filter On/Off that allows you to record video in near total darkness .

There is also a 3-Way PC Link that gives you three convenient ways to transfer still images to your computer. "i.LINK" lets you use the industry standard IEEE1394 interface; PHOTOVU LINK lets you transfer still images on the Mini DV tape via a RS-232C Serial cable; and CARD LINK, allows you to transfer still images captured on the included 8MB removable MultiMedia Card. The PV-DV800's IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface allows you to transfer your footage to a computer or to another DV camcorder with no reduction in quality.

The PV-DV800 has Panasonic’s largest LCD monitor and a long-lasting 3-hour lithium-ion battery pack. Other standard features include 18X optical zoom lens, 300x Digital Zoom, digital effects, color viewfinder, removable 8MB MultiMedia card, IR filter, analog input, video light, and AC Adapter/Charger with cables.

Features

High Quality

  • 1/4-inch CCD with 460,000 pixels combined with DV recording system delivers superb images of almost 500 lines of horizontal resolution.

  • Equipped with an 18X optical zoom lens that delivers close-up shots with extraordinary clarity. It also offers seven different zoom speeds, so you can go from wide angle to full telephoto zoom in 2 to 22 seconds. A 300x digital zoom is also offered for incredible close-up capability.

  • Two PCM digital stereo modes: 16-bit mode produces CD quality on one set of stereo tracks, while the 12-bit mode creates two sets of stereo tracks, allowing audio dubbing or narration on the second track.

  • Dual Digital Electronic Image Stabilization (D-EIS) compensate for unintentional hand and camcorder movement to stabilize your recordings--even while shooting from a car or walking down the street. Amazingly, Dual D-EIS also works in the playback mode, removing jitter from previously recorded video--while you playback your video!

  • Incorporates industry-standard i.Link (IEEE1394) digital interface, allowing connection to an IEEE1394-equipped computer for advanced non-linear editing with virtually no deterioration in picture or sound quality. Also allows lossless copies when dubbing to similarly equipped camcorders or VCRs. Produces duplicate copies of personal recordings without any loss in picture quality--every time.

High Performance

  • Equipped with an analog composite video input, the PV-DV800 can accept video input from your old VHS and 8mm camcorders and re-record them onto a digital Mini DV tape for archiving.

  • Includes an amazing IR (infra-red) filter that lets you record video in near-total darkness with incredible detail (images can be recorded in Black & White, Blue or Green). By simply turning on the IR filter, the camcorder uses infrared light to record images in dark settings up to 10 feet away.

  • Add digital effects for a professional-looking production. Effects include Mirror, Strobe, Mosaic, Slim, Trail, Stretch, Wipe, Mix, B & W and Gain-up.

  • 5-mode Program AE (Auto Exposure) provides the proper settings for exposure, shutter speed and depth of field for a variety of environments (Portrait, Sports, Low-Light, Spot Light and Sand & Snow modes).

  • Slow motion and frame-by-frame playback using the optional remote control

  • PhotoShot mode allows you to use your camcorder as a digital still camera by capturing six seconds of stills with audio in VGA (640 x 480) resolution. These images can be transferred to your computer and incorporated in e-mails or printed documents, or play them back on TV to create your own slide show. You can record about 1000 still images on one 60-minute tape.

  • To further enhance the photographic effects created by PhotoShot, you can use the shutter effect to simulate the look and sound of a camera shutter each time you take a still picture.

  • Bundled with Adobe PhotoDeluxe software for manipulating and editing your still images

Conveniences

  • Supplied 5-watt video light mounts on top of the camcorder for recording more realistic colors in low-light conditions. The light draws power from the camcorder, so there is no need to carry an extra battery.

  • Also includes long-lasting 2 hr. 50-minute lithium-ion battery pack (Step-up feature from the PV-DV600)

  • 3.5-inch high-resolution WideSigth LCD color monitor uses special polysilicon materials that help keep the picture clear even when viewed from almost any angle. The monitor can also rotate 270 degrees, letting you hold the camcorder at many different angles whle recording. A speaker is also built-in, so you can check your finished recordings on the spot. (Step-up feature from the PV-DV600)

  • The camera also has a high-resolution (114,000 pixels) color viewfinder for those times when you can’t use the LCD monitor

  • Battery and tape remaining time in the viewfinder; external mic input and headphone jack

  • PhotoVu Link allows you to download images to your PC using the supplied RS-232 serial cable

  • PC connection lets you transfer still images captured on the included 8MB MultiMediaCard. The MultiMediaCard can be thought of as "digital film," so you can take still pictures and then transfer them to your computer. If the card is full, you can remove it and replace it with a fresh card. Or you can selectively erase any or all of the images from the card and reuse it. You can even create your own images on the computer and transfer them back to the MultiMediaCard in your camcorder. Capture up to 240 images in NORMAL mode (320 x 240) or up to 60 images in FINE mode (640 x 480) on the 8MB card.
